Beautiful summer days call for adventure. Our latest adventure took us back to Horsetooth Reservoir –this time for mountain biking. Jason had already tried the Blue Sky Trail and thought I’d enjoy it as well.
Less technical, less steep climb or descent and less intense rockiness suits me just fine! That’s not to say it’s a piece of cake by any means, as I still felt that extreme burn and sucked in air as we ascended.

I’m still learning to traverse Colorado trails. For the most part, they’re more technical and rocky than Midwest trails. Oh yeah, and there’s that little thing called elevation. Several rides have called for more walking than riding.
That’s fine with me; I’d rather use a bit of caution to try and avoid more urgent care visits (remember my adventure at McDowell Mountain Regional Park?!). The scenery is well worth the bike hike.
Blue Sky is a mostly single track, gradual rolling terrain, slightly rocky trail. There are definitely moments of open smooth trail to fly forward and others of quick, sharp turns with jutting rocks obstructing the trail.
A careful balance of determined focus and free spirited pedaling is rewarded with breathtaking views of a grassy valley, beautiful rock formations crawling up the hills and a peek at the snow-capped mountains.

| Great scenery dotted the entire trail. |
We rode for about two hours, meeting other mountain bikers, hikers and a handful of dogs enjoying both the serene and exciting trail adventures.
Everyone was friendly and courteous, a necessity when man and machine share the same narrow space.
This trail topped my list for favorite riding path. Offering both beauty and challenge, it left me feeling accomplished, relaxed, tired, excited and in awe of the landscape. I will definitely be back to ride again, but for now, I look forward to finding new gems to ride.

Thankfully most of the rock surround the
trail and wasn't all over the trail itself. |

| Gradual rolling terrain on this single track trail. |

| A view to slow down and take in. |

| I really enjoyed this ride! |
 |
Hard to tell in this photo but we caught a
glimpse of snow-capped mountains. |

Sign of a good ride? Dirty bike. We had to
cross three different steams out and back. |

| Capping off the ride with a tasty beer! |
