Health and Fitness Thankfulness

It’s a common time of the year to reflect on what you’re thankful for and what you hope to achieve in the future.  I have many things to be thankful for again this year and I wanted to share five things that I’m thankful for that are related to health and fitness.

1. I am thankful for a functioning mind, body and spirit.  I am fortunate to have good health, which I know isn’t a “right” and is something that has to be worked for and can be quickly lost if not watched diligently.  So I’m thankful for another year of general healthfulness.

2. I am thankful for my family and friends, who keep me laughing, loving and enjoying life.  I think that’s key to good mental health.

3. I am thankful to have competed in a wide variety of races.  Each time I’m able to cross both the start and finish line is momentous for someone who was overweight and never competed in anything physical in her life several years ago.

4. I am thankful for the resources I have access to in order to try and live a healthy lifestyle.  Having access to clean water, a variety of foods, sporting gear and training plans keep me pushing forward on my journey to good health and wellness.

5. I am thankful for the Farrell’s (workout program) community that I belong to and all the people who help me push myself harder than I can alone.  It’s a great environment and helps me balance running with other forms of working out.

6. I decided to throw in one more thing.  I’m thankful for those who read my blog; whether you read to follow my progress or read to learn something new, whether you hope to find something to give you that spark to take control of your health and wellness or you like hearing stories from another weekend warrior; I do hope you enjoy reading my posts.  Feel free to pass along ideas of what you’d like to read about in 2013.

What health and fitness things are you thankful for this year?  I enjoy having conversation about health and wellness, so feel free to comment below.  Also, I’d like to open the conversation to more people, so if you have a minute, please forward on my blog to a friend or family member who may be interested in talking about health and fitness.

What’s the #1 health and fitness goal you achieved this year that you’re most proud of?  What’s your #1 goal for 2013 related to health and fitness?  What do you hope to discover about yourself through exercising and eating a healthy diet (because I believe you learn a lot!)?  Any health and wellness advice you’d like to share with others as we approach a new year?  Feel free again to comment below.

Happy holidays!
