Welcome to my blog!

The body is one amazing machine!  Think about everything it does and all the things you never even realize.  When we properly use and fuel our body, it hums along beautifully.  So why is it some neglect or destroy it?!

Health education seemed to fall by the wayside for a period of time.  Schools cut physical education programs and many started leading sedentary lives.  I just don’t understand it.  Your health is the core foundation to everything you do; if you are living an unhealthy lifestyle then everything suffers.  Unhealthy habits can lead to stress, poor quality sleep, disease and illness, and unhappiness.  It’s not to say though that you don’t encounter those things even if you are living a healthy lifestyle.  Trying to find the right balance is key.

Now that the US has seen a drastic rise in obesity rates, preventable illnesses, and health care costs, people are talking.  We see TV shows born out of people’s desperation to lose weight; we see new gyms and fitness programs open up around every corner; and we see food packages touting “free” of this and “free” of that.  There’s so much to learn and sometimes it’s overwhelming.  However, the fact that people are having conversation is awesome!  The more we can help each other find that balance and live a healthy lifestyle, the more opportunities we’ll have to lead a better quality life.

Life is an interesting journey with its shares of ups and downs (and sometimes sideways!).  I believe it starts with yourself.  I want to take the best care of “me” so that I can give my best to everyone else.  That’s not to say I’ve led a lifelong “perfect” healthy lifestyle.  First, no one’s perfect.  Second, I was not aware of what a real healthy lifestyle was until after my own health scare.  I was overweight and had to deal with my own health issues.  It was an eye-opening experience; one that led to intense study and research to try and figure out how to live this elusive lifestyle.

I still work to find balance everyday.  I have my days where I’d like to sit down with a bowl of ice cream (or the whole container!) and wallow in my sorrows.  Has that ever happened?  Yes.  Will it ever happen again?  It’s certainly possible.  Have I found alternatives to help me deal with the stresses of life?  Yes!!!  Exercising, reading, writing, talking with friends and family!  What’s on your list of healthy alternatives?

I could sit and talk about health and fitness all day long.  So I decided to start a blog to share my own experiences in health and fitness - the successes, the challenges, and everything in between.  I love to share interesting health articles and facts that I come across.  I invite you to visit my blog if you have an interest or curiosity about health and fitness.  Share it with friends and family.  This blog is meant for everyone - someone who exercises everyday (and probably know 10 times more than I do!) and wants to “compare notes” or look for motivation, someone who is struggling and needs a lift back to healthy habits, someone who’s found health and fitness and wants to learn more, and someone who despises exercise and “health” food and just wants to see what this “crap” is all about.  Welcome to everyone.

I’m excited to share more of my journey - more about how I started my own health journey and why I like to inspire people to take their healthy more seriously.  Again, look for articles, tips, ideas and my own personal experiences, and follow me on Twitter at www.twitter.com/missfitgab.  Remember that machine called your body is the foundation of YOU, so take care of it!
